BEST PRACTICE: Use DK Links for Doubleknot Pages and Documents

The DK Links feature is the best way to include a link to a document; a registration page for events, programs, facilities, memberships, dues and fundraisers; or a store product. Using DK Links ensures that you always publish the right URL for the following:

  • Photo Albums
  • Site Brander
  • Newsletters
  • Documents
  • Document Folders
  • Store Products
  • Store Categories
  • Activities or Events
  • Feature List
  • Surveys
  • Home Page

You can use DK Links anywhere you use the Rich Text Editor, including Communications Center, Site Brander, Newsroom, and the details section for any item in Event Management and Memberships.

To create a link to a document or page in Doubleknot, follow these steps in the Rich Text Editor:

  1. Place the cursor where you want to create the link.

Best Practices for Event Categories

Event categories are a powerful feature for organizing and communicating event information. At the most basic level, Doubleknot’s event categories make it easy to organize events into related groups. With event categories, you can:

  • Display related events on the organizational calendar. Visitors can display all events or only the events for a selected category.
  • Share the link to a page that lists all events in a certain category. For example, you might want to let visitors click a link to see all the Family Fun events in a list instead of on a calendar.
  • Define an upsell category that presents visitors with additional options related to their purchase. (More information about upsell categories will be included in next week’s Friday News.)

When you create or modify an event, you can assign it to a maximum of three categories on the Create and Modify page. You can create and modify categories, assign multiple events to categories, and choose where the category events are displayed using options within the Utilities tab in Event Management.

  • To create and modify categories, click Manage Categories.
  • To assign multiple events to a selected category, click Assign Events to Categories.
  • To include the contents of a category on the calendar, click Assign Categories to Calendar.
  • To find the URL that will display a viewer-friendly list of all the events in a category, including the description and available space, follow these steps:
  1. Click Manage Categories.
  2. Select the category you want to share.
  3. Select Modify Category.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Select and copy the URL in the Category URL field.

Complete information about event categories is located in the “Creating and Editing Calendar Activity Events User Guide” and in the online help.

Document Library Storage Increased for All Doubleknot Clients!

As a result of last month’s infrastructure changes, we are pleased to announce that the storage limit for the Document Library has been increased to 1 GB for each organization and suborganization! The additional storage space makes the Document Library an even better tool for sharing documents within your organization and with the public. Benefits of the Document Library include:

  • Support for DK Links. You can use the DK Links feature in the rich text editor to easily create a link to any document or document folder in the library.
  • Other people in your organization can link to a document or document folder. If you attach a document to a Communications Center email, no one else in your organization can publish a link to the document. But, if you upload the file to the Document Library, it’s easy for other people in your organization to include a link to the document in Communications Center emails, on Site Brander web pages, in Newsroom articles, or anywhere else in Doubleknot.
  • Easy maintenance of frequently updated files. If you have a document that’s updated frequently, like a leader’s manual, you can create an entry for it in the Document Library. When the document is updated, you can upload the most recent version to the existing Document Library entry. All links to the document will automatically display the most recent version.
  • Access control. You can make documents and folders in the Document Library visible to the public or only to people who have logon accounts for your organization. launched a major change to their algorithm for search results on mobile devices. Mobile-friendly web sites will be placed higher in the search results. And, mobile-friendly sites will display a mobile-friendly label in the search results, letting people know before they click your link that they’ll have an optimal mobile experience on your site.
