BEST PRACTICE: Sharing URLs for Doubleknot Pages

If your organization uses SiteBrander to manage your web site, you already know about the DK Links feature that makes it easy to publish the correct link to reach anything in Doubleknot, including events, documents, surveys and more.

If you don’t use Site Brander or if you need to share links to Doubleknot pages in an email or another web site, follow these tips to make sure that you publish the right link:

  • To find the top-level link for any Doubleknot feature (such as the calendar, the event list, the event search feature, the facility calendar, facility search, newsletters, etc.), click Organization URLs in the Administer panel.
  • To find the link for a specific item, go to the top level of the item. The URL will be displayed at the top of the page. For example, the URL for a specific event is displayed on the Manage Event page; the URL for a specific photo album is displayed on the Create and Modify page for the photo album; etc.
  • On any management page that lists two URLs, copy and share the shorter “friendly” URL. In the following example for a Calendar Activity event, the best URL to share is highlighted in yellow. (The longer URL will also work, but it’s preferable to publish the shorter one.)

The correct URL to share for this event is highlighted in yellow

What Do Customers See When They Log On?

What Do Customers See When They Log On?

As a Doubleknot administrator, you know what Doubleknot looks like when you log on—you see the Feature List and Administer panels with all the tools you need. But do you know what your constituents see when they log on?

When your customers, members, visitors and other constituents log on, they see a page with several tabs that provide access to all of their registrations, reservations, memberships and more in Doubleknot. Depending on how your organization uses Doubleknot, the following tabs may be displayed after a constituent logs on.

Summary: Immediately after logging in, the summary tab is displayed. This tab contains information about all upcoming events and reservations. If a payment is due for a registration or reservation, it’s listed in the Upcoming Payments section.

The Summary tab

Subscriptions: This tab lets constituents manage their subscriptions to your Doubleknot mailing lists. They can add or remove their account from any mailing list that they’re eligible for.

The Subscriptions tab

Registrations. This tab displays all of the customer’s past and current event and program registrations. Customers can view details, edit a registration (if the event is configured to allow updates) and make payments.

The Registrations tab

Reservations. This tab displays all of the customer’s past and current facility reservations. Customers can view details, edit a reservation (if the facility is configured to allow updates) and make payments.

The Reservations tab

Purchases. This tab displays all orders that this constituent has made in Doubleknot. Detailed information about individual orders can be displayed.

The Purchases tab

Memberships. If your organization uses the Membership Management module, this tab displays the constituent’s current and past memberships (if any) and allows them to view the details of any membership.

The Memberships tab

Profile. This tab lets the constituent update their profile information and contains a link to change their logon ID and/or password.

When a customer clicks the Profile tab, the Update Profile page is displayed

Group. If the constituent has registered one or more groups for group-signup programs or events, tools to manage the group are displayed in this tab. The constituent can add, update or remove people from the group and send email to all group members.

Upcoming Enhancements to Communications Center

Upcoming enhancements to Communications Center will make it easier to search for and review your outbound messages. All sent messages, draft messages, and scheduled messages will be displayed in a tabbed format similar to the Newsroom interface. You’ll be able to search messages for a word or phrase, and sort messages by subject, date sent, or the number of recipients.

The new Communications Center interface makes it easier to manage your messages.

Check It Out: Free Monthly Writing Prompts Make It Easier to Create Fresh Content

If one of the hats you wear at your organization includes creating content—for newsletters, appeals, blogs and/or social media— you might occasionally find yourself in front of a blank screen wondering what to write about. If that’s the case, check out the Nonprofit Marketing Guide’s free monthly writing prompts for nonprofits!

Every month, Kivi Leroux Miller and her team send an email with at least ten writing prompts and ideas for the following month (for example, the March email contained writing prompts for April). The suggestions include:

  • Upcoming calendar events (for example, April includes National Volunteer’s Week, International Children’s Book Day, Take Our Sons and Daughters to Work Day, among many others)
  • A metaphor for the month with ideas for how to incorporate the metaphor into your writing (April’s metaphor is gardening and landscapes)
  • A list of pop culture events and news
  • A suggested source to find additional inspiration for your content

You can sign up for the free writing prompts email at

Improvements to Communications Center “Add Recipients” feature for event/program registrants

In Communications Center, the options to add recipients from the address lists for events/fundraisers and from the address lists for programs have been reworded for clarity.

When you choose one of these options in the Add Recipients section, your choices are now:

  • All registrants and all registration owners: Sends the message to all registrants and registration owners who are registered for the event at the time that the message is sent.
  • Only registration owners: Sends the message to the registration owner for each registration at the time the message is sent. Registrants who are not registration owners will not receive the message.

As always, the mailing list is generated when the message is sent—people who register after you create the message but before the message is scheduled to be sent will receive the message. So, you can create and schedule all of your communications in advance with confidence that they’ll go to all of the right recipients.
